While true, it is only true because as conditioned consumers from birth, each gen is conditioned to make $ THE priority.
This externally motivated value driver, exposes the limited progress in human/social development our species has made in the past 10k years. Our human advances have embarrassingly overshadowed our human development/evolution. However, we have become wonderfully conditioned consumers.
Similar to the inequity created when a court awards $ for loss of a murdered love one... falling absurdly short and rarely addressing any relevant human factors associated with the loss.
But... 'it's the best we can do', awarding that which we value the most. No. It is the best we have chosen to put our effort into creating/building over the past 10k years. And this is what is so limiting and sad about the truth, 'When people pay, they pay attention.'
To accept this axiom, is to accept... this (mostly), is all we are.
man, literally what I’ve been thinking about this morning
people used to travel miles by foot to gain knowledge
the side effect of this was staying with the person they were learning from, subconsciously adopting their EXPERIENTIAL application of the knowledge
nowadays we get a quick hit of success stories and life hacks with no DOING, no TRYING
like you said, skin in the game comes from TRYING. from sacrificing lending out your thought process for free.
engagement not just with OTHERS, but with your own thoughts through ACTION
love these thoughts, keep it up
'if i bleed to write it, you should feel something to read it.'
This one hit hard.
That hit hard.
people pay attention to what they pay for - this is literally one of the key reasons we've been successful at Mighty Networks. Great post.
precisely!
Despite what follows, I do like your post.

Antifragility perfectly at play
I resonated with this.
I'm fascinated to hear your take on this phenomenon in contrast to the intentional degradation of a service for profit i.e. "enshitification".
Like, is it the same impulse, just harnessed with a more malevolent intention?
